This series explores social problems and issues of teenagers through contemporary young adult literature. Each volume in the series is devoted to a general area of problems for teenagers: family issues, identity issues, societal issues, abuse issues, health issues, and end-of-life issues. The volumes provide information for teenagers, parents, teachers and others working with young adults by exploring particular issues through fictional characters. Chapters in each volume explore specific issues such as rape and child abuse, and each volume features the following:
  • Unique pairing of young adult literature experts and psychologists provides analyses of fictional characters
  • Coping techniques explored for the various issues
  • Annotated bibliographies of fiction and nonfiction works that can also be used to help teens
  • Encouragement for teenagers to develop reading skills while coping with problems
